In 2009 each programme under-went updates, and new examinations are now available for each of them. Internationally the 2006-2007 editions of A+ (those with exam pre-fix numbers '600') will be phased out within the coming year. In Britain, they discontinue on 31st August 2010. As 2009 examinations ('700') are currently offered at test centres regionally, the newer study programs would be a more valuable preference for someone just starting out. CompTIA 'A+' Essentials & CompTIA A+ Practical Application are the new examination titles (220/701 & 220/702 respectively). Along with some additional subject matter on more recent technology, we now have two examinations which cover aspects of all 4 of the earlier exams. The old structure was one required Essentials examination & three 'electives', of which just one was required to be sat. These days the industry needs professionals with expertise that was in all four past examinations. Students will get that knowledge from the 2 '2009' obligatory A+ programs. A bridging exam has been produced by 'CompTIA' for any person with the old certification. BR/003 is the exam reference. Successfully passing the up-grade examination will usually need additional study, but it shouldn't be especially onerous for those who formerly studied all 4. Clearly however the newer technology topics will have to be mastered.

In relation to 'Network+' , the old N10-003 has today been replaced by the N10-004, the 2009 version.
